Lost Episodes
From Adventures in Odyssey
Adventures in Odyssey’s lost history has been found! So what are the "Lost Episodes"? These are programs that for one reason or another didn’t fit into the regularly-released albums. Sometimes the timing was just wrong, like a Christmas show in an album that was being released in the middle of the summer. Some were episodes for special occasions, and in some cases, they decided that the content might be a little too mature or controversial to be included in a regular album. These wayward episodes from the early days are loaded with great storytelling and values-based content like all the other Adventures in Odyssey episodes. Fresh from exile, here are the stories time almost forgot.
These never-before-released episodes have been compiled and are now available in a special collection,
AIO Gold: "The Lost Episodes."
"Dental Dilemma," "My Brother’s Keeper," "No Stupid Questions" and "A Simple Addition," were episodes that were originally created for the show that preceded Adventures in Odyssey. Family Portraits was produced to air on Dr. Dobson’s "Focus on the Family broadcast" and introduced the town of Odyssey and John Avery Whittaker to the world. Later, when AIO became a series of its own, these episodes were in the broadcasts, but they never made it into one of the published collections...until now!
As you well know, celebrating Halloween is one of those subjects often debated by parents. Some believe it is an inappropriate event and want nothing to do with it; others seek alternative ways to enjoy the evening; others simply don’t care. "What Are We Going to Do About Halloween?" was written to give parents a few alternative ideas to Halloween, finding a middle ground, or so they thought. As it turned out, parents representing all sides of the Halloween argument didn’t agree on the position they took, so they quietly put the program aside for special occasions or releases.
"Pamela Has a Problem" deals with the sanctity of human life and specifically the issue of abortion. Writer and director Paul McCusker explains the controversy surrounding this episodes in a special bonus feature. They recommend that parents preview it before allowing their children to listen.
"Isaac the Benevolent" and "The Trouble With Girls" are not so much "lost" as "displaced" episodes. Die-hard fans will remember a buffoon-like policeman named Officer David Harley in some of the early episodes. Some didn’t like his character so they arranged for him to leave Odyssey. They have now rewritten the episodes and have published them again in this album to be enjoyed once again.
"Honor Thy Parents," "It Sure Seems Like it to Me" and "Isaac the True Friend" were odd little episodes which fell a little short, so they have been rewritten and published in this album.
"Train Ride" was a mystery/adventure that captivated many listeners, but some thought one moment of the show was too violent. As it turned out, the moment was not what some listeners thought it was, but out of respect to some letters received, the show was taken out of the regular series.
There are some retrospective shows that have never previously been released that are included in the CD-ROM content of Disc 1.
